Edmonton Beekeeping Courses and Certification
1. All About Honeybees – covers the biology and behaviour of a honeybee colony (April 11th and 18th).
2. Getting Started – will teach you how to apply with the City and province, cover equipment considerations, hive placement, and time commitment (May 2nd and May 9th).
3. Management and Diseases – covers the ins and out of regular hive inspections, seasonal changes and considerations, swam and disease prevention, integrated pest management and treatment options (May 23rd and June 6th).
4. Honey Harvest and Winterization – tackles the stick bit. Learn how and when to harvest and how to prepare a honeybee colony for the winter (June 20th and June 27th)
Each class is 3 hours and taken over Zoom. Taken together, the 4 courses are recognized by the City of Edmonton and the City of Leduc as an approved beekeeping certificate.
Conversely, the four 3-hours courses can be taken over a single weekend in the Two-Day Beekeeping Certificate Course. (June 13th and 14th at the John Janzen Nature Centre)
